Colombia's first mass transit aerial cable system opened in Medellin on July 30, 2004. The $US 23 million Metrocable is 2km long with four stations including a connection with the Metro at Acevedo. It is operated by 90 gondola cabins each with a capacity of 10 passengers. Capacity is 3000 passengers/hour. Journey time is 9 minutes with gondolas running at 12-second seperations. The cable line has an average gradient of 20% and a maximum gradient of 49%.
